Unidentified Network on Windows Vista

UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is a peer-to-peer network architecture standard that allows intelligent appliances, wireless devices,

(PC), peripherals to connect to a network and to communicate with each other that located in close proximity. In Vista ,  UPnP has been renamed to Network Discovery, and is disabled by default in all editions of Vista as Windows Firewall blocks network discovery.

To enable and turn on UPnP service or Network Discovery , simply follow this steps:

  1. Click on Start button, then select Control Panel.
  2. Click on Network and Internet link, and then click on Network and Sharing Center.
  3. You will see that network discovery is off. Click on the corresponding arrow button  to expand the section.
  4. Click “Turn on network discovery”, and then click Apply. (might require administrator password).

Windows Mail – MCafee Anti Spam is not working

Windows Mail works along with your Mcafee Anti Spam system.  Spams are checked and moved to a Spam folder automatically in Windows Mail. That Spam Folder belongs to MCafee. Sometimes ,  the folder might get corrupt and MCafee then stops resending those emails from Inbox to the Spam Folder.

The size of the spam folder might be huge , hence at times while deleting those emails manually from the SPAM folder , Windows Mail might crash.  Here is the workaround:

1.) Reboot system in Safe mode

2.) Open Windows Mail.  Goto Options from the menu and then on to maintenance , click on Store Folder and copy the path.

3.) Navigate to the store folder path > Inbox and then delete the Mcafee Spam Folder. Reboot system in Normal mode

4.) Reopen Windows Mail. The folder would be recreated but you will still see the emails (the content would be empty). Select them by pressing Ctrl + A and delete them.

Error in windows update 80070490

Sadly enough , Microsoft has no answer to this issue . All they say is that you need to carry out a System restore , if that fails then run an upgrade installation.  This is what i do not like about Microsoft and probably that’s the reason as why more and more people get pissed off with the Microsoft OS.

Windows Vista – BOOTMGR is missing

Boot off the Windows Vista DVD and then click Next at the first prompt:

You should see a link in the lower left-hand side for “Repair your computer”

The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory. If there’s more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again.

Click the first link for “Startup Repair”

The installation process will repair the system, and then prompt for you to reboot.
